Hole in One

Hole in One

On Valentine's Day, Pat McSween, a member of the Boundary Oak Women's 9-hole Golf Club, had a hole in one on the 12th hole using her Hybrid 5. Her first hole in one was back in 2013, at this same course.
Pat has the added distintion of having been our Club Champion several times over the years. She is truly a dedicated player and lover of the game.
Congratulations, Pat.

The Skyettes of Hayward are pleased to introduce you to their Club Champion, Bev DeViney. Bev has repeated as Club Champion for several years and this year finished tied for second place but lost in the tie breaker to finish third in the Tournament of Club Champions.  Bev also serves as our weekly tournament chair, assistant handicap chair, and is Captain of the Mission Hills Ladies Golf Club in Hayward.  Anyone who knows Bev will think of her great smile, kind personality and Aloha spirit.  She was born and raised in Hawaii and makes regular trips there to visit family and, of course, play golf!   Her other athletic pursuits include swimming, tennis, racquetball, softball and bowling.  Before retirement, Bev worked as a firefighter for 23 years for the Phoenix Fire Department.  Congratulations Bev, and thanks for representing the Skyettes so well.

Buchanan Fields Golf Club
Our summer has ended and we have a new Club Champion – Who? Bernie Garrison from Buchanan Fields Golf Club.  This is Bernie’s second year as club champ. Club members don’t let her take this title easily, she battles strong and is a fierce competitor, with a heart as big as the course she plays on.
Bernie joined Buchannan Fields Golf Association in 2012 and has since occupied many offices from rules to scorekeeping, she will step in as Co-Captain for 2018.  Bernie has always been willing to help with club business as well as being mentor to many members.  Bernie shares her knowledge of the game willingly, she has great knowledge of the rules, is a seasoned veteran of the game and a great partner to have on the course.
Bernie is all of 5' nothing and known to her closer friends/family as Shorty, Biggie.  Her presence is unmistakable and she is always in for a good laugh and a party. Congratulations from all of us at BFWGA!

Winners were paid with Target Gift Cards.  Winner were:
Flight 1: 1st Place Ann Smith from Mt St Helena, 2nd Place Vivianne Sunia from Brentwood and 3rd place was
Val Guardino from Modesto

Flight 2: 1st Place was Carol Lipchik from Castle Oaks, 2nd was Barbara Walker from Stockton and 3rd place was

Closest to the Pin winner at Monterey Pines with just over 4 feet was Hollyne Mosegaard from Manteca.
Congratulation to all. And a big thank you to Bev Chance for assisting with the tournament.

A few highlights were the perfect weather and excellent shape of the courses.  The Navy threw in an air show and Sam Jepson and his staff at Pacific Grove went out of their way to make this a very enjoyable experience.
Another comment that was shared was The Castle Oaks Swingers had the largest turnout for the event.  And one of the players had her breakfast burrito in her purse and while making a pit stop she came back to a huge crow stealing her burrito right out of her purse.  He was successful getting it out and was in the process of starting to eat it when he was shooed away.  He brought a friend back and followed the ladies to the next hole trying to get at the breakfast burrito.
One more story I received was while getting ready to tee off at Pacific Grove, Maureen looks over by the cart hearing bird noises.  One might have been a crow who took off with her bag of nuts…the whole bag.  And congrats Maureen on that birdie at Monterey Pines.   Everyone seems to enjoy the experience and look forward to going back next year.  Here are a few photos that were shared.

These golf buddies sure know how to have fun.

The  Alameda Women’s Nine Hole Club recently participated in the City of Alameda’s annual 4th of July parade, known to be the largest parade in the U.S.  170 entries and the route is 4 miles. We promoted our club as well as the Chuck Corica Golf Complex  and Junior Golf.  We all had a blast!
